1Ki 2:28-45 Joab Slain.

Joab Slain.

The news of Adonijah and Abiathar's executions prepared Joab for his own fate. His crimes (Numbers 35:33) would have warranted death long ago, but his influence with the army had protected him from King David's justice. Now, fleeing to the altar, he hoped to find refuge in its sacred status as a place of asylum (Exodus 21:14). However, Benaiah was unwilling to take responsibility for the killing and referred the matter to Solomon, who decided that the law should be upheld (Deuteronomy 19:13).

Their blood will return upon Joab's head, echoing King David's public curse (2 Samuel 3:28-29).
