10. The next day, an evil spirit from God came upon Saul - This bitter thought triggered another episode of his mental affliction.

He prophesied - The term refers to someone under the influence of either a good or bad spirit. In this case, it describes Saul's frenzied state. David, recognizing the symptoms, attempted to calm the stormy turmoil in the king's mind with soothing music from his harp. However, before its calming effect could be felt, Saul hurled a javelin at the young musician.

There was a javelin in Saul's hand - If this had resulted in David's death, it would have been considered an act of a man beyond reason and control. The attempt was repeated multiple times without success, and Saul became increasingly intimidated by David as if he were under God's special protection.
