1Sa 18:1-4 Jonathan Loves David.

Jonathan Loves David.

The soul of Jonathan was deeply connected to that of David, and it's likely they were nearly the same age. Initially, Saul had shown little interest in David as a musician, but his bravery, humility, modesty, piety, and exceptional abilities sparked a strong affection in Jonathan's heart.

Saul refused to let David return home, establishing him as a permanent resident at court instead.

Jonathan and David then made a covenant of brotherhood, a common practice in the East. Such agreements were formalized through ceremonies and witnessed by others, binding the parties to be sworn brothers for life.

In a gesture of great honor, Jonathan gave David his royal robe, which was considered the highest privilege that could be bestowed on a subject. The girdle, connected with the sword and bow, held significant value in Eastern culture.
