Jos 23:12 By Threatenings in Case of Disobedience.

By Threatenings in Case of Disobedience.

Joshua warns them that if they were to turn back and ally themselves with any remaining Canaanite nations, it would lead to strong temptations to disobey God's commands (Exodus 34:12-16; Deuteronomy 7:3). With this prohibition in mind, Joshua threatens that God's help in driving out the Canaanites would be withdrawn if they failed to obey. This warning is grounded in earlier promises and warnings (Exodus 23:33; Numbers 33:55; Deuteronomy 7:16).
