Ac 11:27-30 By Occasion of a Famine Barnabas and Saul Return to

Jerusalem with a Contribution for the Relief of Their Suffering Brethren.

27. Inspired teachers from Jerusalem arrived, bringing prophetic messages. These individuals were part of a class that would later be mentioned alongside apostles (1 Corinthians 12:28-29; Ephesians 4:11).

28. They announced that a severe famine was impending throughout the Roman Empire. This prediction came to pass during the reign of Claudius Caesar, specifically in A.D. 41, as recorded by Josephus (Antiquities 20.2.5). This event is significant for understanding the chronology of Acts.

29. In response to this news, the disciples collectively decided to send aid according to each person's ability. This act was a demonstration of the pure love that characterized the early Christian community.

30. The relief was sent through the hands of Barnabas and Saul, who were entrusted with this task. This marked Saul's second visit to Jerusalem after his conversion.
