Announcement of His Death and Resurrection.

This event is closely related to Mark 9:14-32 (see on that passage).

The mighty power of God was again demonstrated in this miracle, as it had been in the transfiguration and other events. The disciples were constantly being reminded of Christ's divine grandeur as they journeyed with Him.

These sayings refer to Christ's second explicit announcement about His sufferings, which He now repeated for their benefit. He cautioned them not to be carried away by the glory they had just witnessed, but to remember what He had already told them and was now reiterating: that the Son of Man would soon be handed over into the hands of men.

The disciples were deeply troubled by these announcements, to the point where they feared asking Him any questions. Their cherished ideas about Christ's glory were being shattered, leaving them uncertain how to respond.
