Lu 7:11-17 Widow of Nain's Son Raised to Life. (In Luke only).

11. Nain was a small village in Galilee, located about twelve miles south of Mount Tabor and near Capernaem.

12. The funeral procession was underway, as it was customary to bury the dead on the same day they passed away. Because the deceased was ceremonially unclean, burial within the city was not permitted.

13. Jesus saw her weeping by the side of the road, and he had compassion for her. He approached her and said, "Do not weep."

14-15. This scene is a remarkable display of both majesty and grace. The Resurrection and the Life, in human flesh, spoke a single word to bring back life to the dead body. Incarnate Compassion summoned its power to dry the widow's tears.

16. Jesus' visit to his people was more than just a demonstration of his power; it was a fulfillment of the ministry of Elijah and Elisha (1 Kings 17:17-24, 2 Kings 4:32-37).
