Jesus Crosses to the Western Side of the Lake Walking on
The events that follow are also recorded in John 6:15-24 and Mark 6:45-52.
28. Peter responded, "Lord, if it's you, tell me to come to you on the water." This request is similar to Peter's earlier plea in Mark 6:50.
29. Jesus said, "Come," and when Peter got out of the boat, he began walking toward Jesus on the water. Again, see Mark 6:50 for a parallel account.
30. However, as Peter looked around at the turbulent wind, his fear took hold, and he started to sink. In desperation, he cried out, "Lord, save me!" This is another instance where Peter's faith was tested.
31. Immediately Jesus reached out with his hand and rescued Peter from the water. Then he said, "You of little faith, why did you doubt?" Jesus' words highlight Peter's lack of trust in God's presence and power.
32. Once they had boarded the boat, the wind died down.
