2Ki 14:23-29 Jeroboam's Wicked Reign over Israel.

Jeroboam, the son of Joash king of Israel, was Jeroboam II. He regained lost territory and expanded the kingdom's power (2Ki 14:25), but he continued the same idolatrous practices as previous kings of Israel (2Ki 14:24). Despite God granting him great national prosperity and influence, the reason for this blessing is explicitly stated in verses 26-27. It was because the purposes of God's covenant had not yet reached a point where He would overthrow the kingdom of the ten tribes (see 2Ki 13:23).
