He Smites Edom.
During the reign of Joram, the Edomites had rebelled against Judah (see 2Ki 8:20). Amaziah, determined to restore their subjection, launched a military campaign against them and successfully defeated their army, gaining control over their capital.
The battle took place in the valley of salt, a region south of the Dead Sea characterized by its salt and sandy plains. This area is often associated with Petra, also known as Selah, which was likely the Edomites' main stronghold. The conquest is described as being given or conquered by God, as indicated by the name Joktheel (2Ch 25:6-16).
