Jehoiada Restores God's Worship.
The covenant between the Lord and the king and the people was a renewal of Israel's national covenant (Ex 19:1-24:18; De 4:6; 27:9). This covenant bound the king to rule according to divine law, while the people pledged allegiance to him as the Lord's anointed. As a direct result of this renewed covenant, the temple was cleansed and the priests of Baal were put to death (2Ki 10:27), restoring pure worship in all its ancient integrity. The young king was also established on Judah's hereditary throne (2Ki 11:19).
