The son of the woman fell ill. A severe domestic crisis had struck her household, and she mistakenly believed that God was withholding rain from her because of the prophet's presence. Without responding to her bitter accusations, the prophet took the child, placed it on his bed, and after a fervent prayer, witnessed its miraculous restoration. Along with this miracle, joy returned to the widow's heart and home.
The prophet had been sent to this widow not only for his own protection but also because of her faith. The Lord directed him to visit her specifically, rather than many other widows in Israel who would have welcomed him with open arms during the famine. By meeting her physical needs, the prophet laid the groundwork for addressing her spiritual needs and ultimately leading her and her son to a deeper understanding of God's character and a firm faith in His word.
