David then entered and sat before the Lord in an attitude of worship. Sitting was a posture of reverence in ancient times (Exodus 17:12; 1 Samuel 4:13; 1 Kings 19:4). It is likely that David sat on his heels, a position of deep respect commonly seen in the East when meeting with someone of higher authority.
In this posture, David asked, "Is it customary for men to show such condescension to those as humble as I am?"
