1Sa 13:6-8 The Israelites' Distress.

The Israelites' Distress.

When the men of Israel saw that they were in a desperate situation, despite Saul's bravery, they showed little enthusiasm and energy. Instead of engaging the enemy, they fled in all directions. Some panicked and left the country (1Sa 13:7), while others took refuge in the hiding places provided by the rugged terrain. The area was characterized by numerous caves, holes, and pits carved into the rocky soil.

He tarried seven days in the eastern borders of his kingdom, near the valley of Jordan. A few bolder spirits had joined the camp at Gilgal, but even their courage faltered in the face of this severe threat. As many as were slipping away, Saul realized that immediate action was necessary.
