Jud 6:33-39 The Signs.

The Signs.

33. The Midianite forces, including Amalek and their allies from neighboring regions, had crossed the Jordan River to launch a fresh attack on Canaan. They encamped in the plains of Esdraelon, known as Jezreel in ancient times. This region is characterized by a low-lying southern area with steep and difficult descents into Canaan through the wadies (valleys). It's likely that the Midianites entered Canaan from the north, using the northern wadies of the Ghor opposite Jezreel.

34. The Spirit of the Lord suddenly came upon Gideon, empowering him with wisdom and energy to meet the immense challenge ahead. In response to this emergency call to service, all the nearby tribes enthusiastically rallied behind him. As he prepared for battle, Gideon sought reassurance that God had indeed called him to this critical role. To confirm his divine appointment, Gideon performed a remarkable miracle involving a fleece, which was especially noteworthy given the region's abundant dew. The Lord patiently and graciously reversed the form of the miracle, demonstrating His condescension towards Gideon's doubts and hesitations.
