Jos 20:7-9 The Israelites Appoint by Name the Cities of Refuge.

The Israelites Appointed by Name the Cities of Refuge.

They designated six cities in total: three on the west side and three on the east side of the Jordan River. This provision was initially a part of the Hebrews' criminal law (see Numbers 35:11; Deuteronomy 19:2), necessary given their circumstances as a people. These cities also served as a typological representation, pointing to the sinner's path to Christ (Hebrews 6:18).
