Ac 9:26-31 Saul's First Visit to Jerusalem after His Conversion.

Saul's First Visit to Jerusalem after His Conversion.

When Saul arrived in Jerusalem, it had been three years since his conversion, and he came specifically to see Peter (Galatians 1:18). He wanted to communicate with him about the scope of his apostolic work, particularly among the Gentiles. Saul attempted to join himself to the disciples as one of them, allowing his apostolic commission to become evident.

However, the other disciples were afraid of him due to his past reputation as a persecutor of the faith. Although they may have heard rumors about his conversion, these stories likely faded during his extended absence in Arabia, and news of his subsequent work in Damascus might not have reached them yet.

Barnabas, who was from Cyprus and had connections with Saul through their shared Hellenistic Jewish background, took it upon himself to introduce Saul to the apostles – specifically Peter and James. This is consistent with Barnabas's character as described in Acts 11:24 and his nickname "son of consolation" (Acts 4:36). After meeting with Peter and James, the other disciples generally accepted Saul.

Saul shared with them how he had seen the Lord and received a direct commission from Him. He spent about fifteen days in Jerusalem, staying with Peter (Galatians 1:18).

During this time, Saul engaged in debates with the Hellenistic Jews, addressing them specifically as they were part of his own social class. Unfortunately, these discussions led to attempts on his life.

The disciples eventually escorted Saul down to Caesarea, a coastal city, but he continued on to Tarsus due to further instructions he received during a trance while praying in the temple (Acts 22:17-21). This journey marked Paul's first visit to his hometown since his conversion. It is uncertain whether he ever returned there again.

It was likely around this time that Saul began to gather his relatives into the Christian community, including those mentioned in Acts 23:16 and Romans 16:7, 11, 21.
