Stephen, filled with grace, was brought before the Sanhedrin.
The group of Jewish leaders who questioned him consisted of men from various regions: those freed from Roman captivity and living in Jerusalem, Jews from Cyrene in Libya, people from Cilicia, and others from Asia.
Despite their efforts to counter his arguments, Stephen's words and spirit were too powerful for them to resist. His message was compelling and persuasive.
The accusations against Stephen centered on his supposed blasphemy against Moses and God. However, it is likely that he was actually speaking about the impending end of the Mosaic system and the supremacy of Christ in a new economy.
As they looked at Stephen's face, they saw an otherworldly radiance, a supernatural calm that reflected the divine peace within him.
