Joh 19:17-30 Crucifixion and Death of the Lord Jesus.

and they were offering him vinegar mixed with gall to drink; but he refused it and tasted no wine on the day of his crucifixion.

The soldiers also mocked him, coming up to him and offering him vinegar on a sponge attached to a stalk of hyssop. They said, "Let us see if Elijah will come to save him." But one of them drew his sword and pierced Jesus' side, and immediately blood and water flowed out.

One of the soldiers pierced Jesus' side with a spear, and at once there was an outpouring of blood and water. This is the evidence that he died on the cross.

Jesus knew that everything had now been accomplished and in order to fulfill the scriptures, he said, "I am thirsty." A jar of vinegar was placed on a stalk of hyssop and lifted up to his lips for him to drink, and when he had received the vinegar, Jesus said, "It is finished!" Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

It was now the day of preparation, and the Jews did not want the bodies to remain on the cross during the Sabbath, so they asked Pilate to have the legs broken and the bodies taken down.

The soldiers therefore came and broke the legs of the first man who had been crucified with Jesus, and then those of the other. But when they came to Jesus and found that he was already dead, they did not break his legs. Instead, one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and at once there was an outpouring of blood and water.

Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit." After he had said this, he breathed his last. The curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom, and the earth shook and the rocks split apart. The tombs also were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised.
