Lu 13:18-30 Miscellaneous Teachings.

18-21. The parables of "the Mustard Seed" and "the Leaven" convey different aspects of the kingdom's growth. The latter emphasizes its inward expansion, while the former highlights its outward spread. Some have attempted to interpret the "three measures of meal" as a reference to the threefold division of humanity into spirit, soul, and body (1 Thessalonians 5:23), or the partitioning of the world among Noah's sons (Genesis 10:32). However, these interpretations are not supported by the text. A more straightforward understanding is that this parable illustrates the all-encompassing influence of the Gospel, which will ultimately shape all institutions and cultures, revealing a unified "Kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ" on earth.

23. The question posed by the crowd, "Lord, are only a few being saved?" (Luke 13:23), is one of those curious inquiries that some people think makes them appear pious. However, Jesus responds to this query as an opportunity to warn the multitude about the gravity of salvation.

24. Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many will desire to do so but lack the determination and effort required (Matthew 7:13-14). The struggle to be saved is intense, and those who merely wish to enter without making a genuine attempt will not succeed.

25. A vivid picture emerges as the master of the house rises from his seat and shuts the door, signifying that the time for entry has passed. Initially, he sits calmly, observing who will strive to enter while still having access. However, this period comes to an end when the Master Himself intervenes, shutting the door forever.

26-27. The crowd's attempt to gain entrance is met with a stern response from Jesus (Matthew 7:21-23). They claim to have sat at His table and listened to His teachings in their streets, but these external connections will not suffice on judgment day. Only those who possess holiness, without which no one can see the Lord, will be granted admission.

28-29. The fate of those who fail to enter is sealed (Matthew 8:11-12; Matthew 13:42).
