In those days, two of the king's attendants became enraged and sought to harm the king.

This secret plot against the king's life likely stemmed from a desire for revenge against him for divorcing Vashti, possibly at her instigation. Through Mordecai's vigilance, however, the conspiracy was thwarted, and the conspirators were condemned to death. The incident was recorded in the court annals, ultimately paving the way for Mordecai's rise to a position of power and influence, which divine providence had intended for him in order to advance the interests of the Jewish people.
