2Ch 8:7-11 The Canaanites Made Tributaries.

The Canaanites Made Tributaries.

7 The remaining descendants of the Canaanites were treated as war prisoners and forced to pay tribute or serve as galley slaves (2Ch 2:18). In contrast, the Israelites worked on projects that carried honor and dignity.

10 Two hundred and fifty Canaanite leaders are mentioned here. This number is also found in 1Ki 9:23, although some scholars believe one of these passages contains a textual error.

11 When Solomon married the Egyptian princess, he initially housed her in Jerusalem's city of David until a suitable palace could be built for her. During this time, he resided in the palace of his father David, but he did not allow his wife to occupy it because she was a foreigner and had brought servants from her own country who practiced idolatry. It would have been improper for her to live in a house that had previously received the ark. Instead, she likely stayed with Solomon's mother (compare 1Ki 3:2).
