Having Peace, He Strengthens His Kingdom with Forts and Armies.

Ashe built fortified cities in Judah (see 1 Kings 15:22).

While the land remains peaceful and secure for us, he also took steps to prepare defenses against potential threats. The kingdom was still small and vulnerable, so it was wise to be proactive about its security. During this time of peace, Ashe had a large army at his disposal, consisting of 580,000 men. Judah contributed heavily armed soldiers, while Benjamin provided archers. This significant force did not comprise professional soldiers but rather all able-bodied men who could bear arms and be called upon to serve in times of need.
