Rehoboam strengthened himself in Jerusalem and reigned for many years after Shishak's departure. The Egyptian invasion had been a brief and limited incursion into Judah, which was likely repelled soon.
However, Rehoboam failed to maintain his commitment to seeking the Lord. He did not continue on the path of reform he had begun, instead turning away from God. This was partly due to the influence of his mother, who was a foreigner and an idolater (see 1 Kings 14:21).
