Ahaziah Is Slain.
27. Ahaziah was the grandnephew of King Joram and great-grandson of King Ahab.
Ibleam was a town near Megiddo in the tribe of Issachar (Joshua 17:11; Judges 1:27), with Gur as an adjacent hill.
30. Jezebel painted her face, using a custom common among women in the East to stain their eyelids with a black powder made from antimony or lead ore mixed with oil. This was applied with a small brush on the edge of the eye to create a dark line that enhanced its appearance. Her intention was not to charm Jehu but to intimidate him through her royal attire.
35. When they searched for Jezebel, they found only her skull and the palms of her hands, as dogs typically avoid eating human flesh from these areas.
2Ki 9:36, 37. Jezebel Eaten by Dogs.
36. This is the word of the Lord (see 1 Kings 21:23). Jehu's statement was a paraphrased quotation of Elijah's prophecy rather than a direct quote.
