Jehoram, the son of Jehoshaphat, began his reign two years before his father's death.

He married the daughter of Ahab, Athaliah, who had a profound influence on him and led him to introduce the worship of Baal and many other evils into Judah. This apostasy would have resulted in the complete destruction of the royal family in Judah if it hadn't been for God's promise to David (2 Samuel 7:16).
