2Ki 6:8-17 Discloses the King of Syria's Counsel.

8-12. The king of Syria waged war against Israel in a series of guerrilla attacks on various parts of the country. Elisha informed King Jehoram about the enemy's secret plans, allowing him to take precautions and defeat their attacks. However, the Syrian king suspected that some of his servants were secretly working with the enemy and discovered Elisha's involvement. He decided to capture Elisha, believing that if he was imprisoned, he would no longer be able to provide information to King Jehoram.

13. Dothan, a small town north of Samaria (see Genesis 37:17).

15. The Syrian detachment surrounded the place at night, intending to capture the prophet. His new servant, who had recently joined him after Gehazi's dismissal, was paralyzed with fear when he saw the enemy forces. This young servant lacked experience and faith in Elisha's abilities.

17. Elisha prayed, "Lord, open his eyes so that he may see." The invisible guard of angels surrounding us (Psalm 34:7) became visible to the servant through the opening of his spiritual eyes. He saw the horses and chariots of fire, symbols of divine power (2 Kings 2:12), which were a supernatural manifestation of God's presence.
