Gehazi, by a Lie, Obtains a Present, but Is Smitten with Leprosy.
The respectful courtesy shown to Elisha by Naaman's servant and the generous gifts he brought demonstrate the full extent of Naaman's gratitude. However, Gehazi's actions give a negative impression of his character. He lied about not taking anything from Naaman, and his deceitful behavior before his master suggests that he was trying to conceal something.
The two bags of money were a common practice in the East for carrying large sums of money while traveling. People would put their money into bags in specific amounts.
Gehazi's punishment with leprosy was not too severe considering his crime, but it was fitting. The affliction was not just a result of his covetousness, but also because he used Elisha's name to gain something for himself, motivated by a selfish desire for wealth. His attempt to cover up this behavior through lying only made things worse.
This heavy infliction was in line with the severity of Gehazi's crime, as it not only punished his covetousness but also his misuse of the prophet's name and his deceitful actions.
