A Prophet Reproves Him.
The prophet who spoke to Ahab (1Ki 20:8) is believed to be Micaiah. When his neighbor refused to strike him, it was a clear mistake, as it hindered the prophet's ability to fulfill his duty, which God had called him to. This refusal was severely punished (1Ki 20:36), serving as a warning to others.
The prophet found someone willing to assist him and then waited for Ahab. As they walked, the prophet led the king unknowingly into a situation where he would pronounce his own doom, much like Nathan's parabolic approach in 2Sa 12:1-4. Immediately after this, another prophet announced the impending punishment (see 1Ki 21:17).
