Elisha Follows Elijah.
19. Elisha, son of Shaphat, likely came from a family known for their devotion to God and their opposition to idol worship. This is evident in his wealth, as indicated by the fact that he was ploughing with twelve yoke of oxen.
20. Elijah then laid hands on Elisha, investing him with the prophetic office. This practice, where one person transfers authority to another, is still observed today in various Eastern cultures. It's likely that Elisha had already received training as a prophet through his education in the schools of the prophets.
21. As Elijah prepared to leave, he instructed Elisha not to be swayed by earthly ties but to follow God's call. With this solemn ceremony fresh in mind, Elisha quickly said goodbye to his family and friends and set out with Elijah as his new master.
