Nadab the son of Jeroboam began his reign with a continuation of his father's misguided policies.
25 Nadab's brief time in power is notable for its lack of any significant events or actions recorded by historians.
27 Baasha, who had taken over as king, defeated Nadab at Gibbethon. This town was originally allocated to the Levites within the tribe of Dan (Joshua 19:44), but it had been seized by the Philistines. Nadab attempted to retake it, but ultimately lost.
29 During his reign, Baasha carried out a brutal act typical of Eastern monarchs who sought power – he eliminated all potential rivals from Jeroboam's family line. This fulfilled Ahijah's earlier prophecy regarding Jeroboam (1 Kings 14:10-11).
