24. A lion encountered him on the road and killed him. This tragic event occurred near Beth-el, where a wood was infested with lions (2Ki 2:24). The catastrophe served as a severe but necessary judgment from God to confirm the truth of the message entrusted to the prophet.
31. He asked to be buried in the tomb where the man of God was laid to rest. His reason for this request may have been that his remains would not be disturbed when the predicted events took place (see 2Ki 23:18), or he hoped to benefit from being near a righteous person at the resurrection.
