At that time, Merodach-baladan, the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a gift to King Hezekiah because he had heard that he was ill and had recovered.
Hezekiah was pleased with them and showed off his wealth, revealing all the treasures in his house, including silver, gold, spices, precious oil, and all his armor. He didn't hold back anything; every item from his treasure trove was on full display throughout his kingdom.
Then Isaiah the prophet appeared before King Hezekiah and asked him about the visitors from Babylon. "What did these men say, and where have they come from?" Hezekiah replied that they had come from a distant land, even from Babylon itself.
Isaiah inquired further: "What have they seen in your house?" Hezekiah answered, "They've seen everything I possess." Isaiah then spoke to Hezekiah: "Hear the word of the Lord of Armies: The time is coming when everything in your house and all that your ancestors stored up until now will be taken away to Babylon. Not a single item will remain."
Isaiah continued, "Your sons who are born to you will be taken captive and serve as eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon." Hezekiah listened to Isaiah's words and said, "The word of the Lord that you have spoken is good; it brings me hope for peace and truth during my reign."
