Then Eliashib the high priest rose up with his brethren the priests. Together, they built the sheep gate, sanctifying it by setting its doors in place from the tower of Meah to the tower of Hananeel.
Next to them, the men of Jericho worked on the wall, while Zaccur son of Imri constructed an adjacent section. The sons of Hassenaah built the fish gate, laying its beams and installing its doors, bolts, and bars.
Meremoth, son of Urijah, son of Hakkoz, repaired a section next to them, followed by Meshullam, son of Berechiah, son of Meshezabeel. Then Zadok, son of Baana, worked on his section adjacent to theirs. The people from Tekoa also repaired the wall, but their leaders refused to submit to their Lord.
Jehoiada son of Paseah and Meshullam son of Besodeiah repaired the old gate, laying its beams in place and installing its doors, locks, and bars. Melatiah the Gibeonite worked alongside Jadon the Meronothite and their fellow citizens from Gibeon and Mizpah, extending as far as the throne of the governor on this side of the river.
Next to Uzziel, a goldsmith, Hananiah, an apothecary, fortified Jerusalem up to the broad wall. Rephaiah, son of Hur, ruler over half Jerusalem, worked on his section adjacent to theirs. Jedaiah son of Harumaph made repairs in front of his own house; next to him, Hattush son of Hashabniah worked.
Malchijah son of Harim and Hashub son of Pahathmoab repaired a section including the tower of the furnaces. Shallum, the son of Halohesh and ruler of half Jerusalem, worked on his section adjacent to theirs with his daughters.
The valley gate was repaired by Hanun and the people of Zanoah, who built it and installed its doors, locks, and bars, extending a thousand cubits along the wall to the dung gate. But Malchiah, son of Rechab, ruler of part of Bethhaccerem, repaired the dung gate and built it, setting up its doors, locks, and bars.
Shallun, son of Colhozeh, ruler of part of Mizpah, repaired the gate of the fountain. He built it, covered it, installed its doors, locks, and bars, and constructed the wall surrounding the pool of Siloam near the king's garden and down to the stairs from the city of David.
Nehemiah the son of Azbuk, ruler of half Bethzur, repaired a section opposite the tombs of David and the pool that was built, as well as to the house of the mighty. After him, the Levites worked on their section, led by Rehum son of Bani, while Hashabiah, ruler of half the district of Keilah, worked on his assigned section.
Benaiah the son of Henadad, the ruler of half the district of Keilah, repaired a section adjacent to theirs. Ezer, son of Jeshua and ruler of Mizpah, worked on another section near the armory at the wall's turn. Baruch son of Zabbai repaired the section from the wall to the door of Eliashib the high priest's house.
Meremoth, son of Urijah, son of Koz, worked on another section from the door of Eliashib's house to its end. The priests who lived in the plain also made repairs. Benjamin and Hashub worked over against their own house; after them, Azariah the son of Maaseiah the son of Ananiah repaired his own section.
Binnui the son of Henadad worked on another piece from the house of Azariah to the corner where the wall turns. Palal the son of Uzai was in charge of repairing the wall opposite the tower that extended from the king's upper house, near the courtyard of the prison. After him, Pedaiah the son of Parosh took over.
The Nethinims lived in Ophel, extending to the location opposite the water gate toward the east and the tower that protrudes. The Tekoites repaired another section of the wall from the great tower that juts out to the wall of Ophel.
From above the horse gate, the priests worked on their section of the wall, each one repairing his own house. Zadok the son of Immer over against his house, and Shemaiah the son of Shechaniah, the keeper of the east gate, also made repairs.
Hananiah son of Shelemiah and Hanun, the sixth son of Zalaph, repaired another section; after them, Meshullam son of Berechiah worked on a portion opposite his own chamber. Malchiah, son of the goldsmith, repaired to the place of the Nethinims and merchants, opposite the gate Miphkad, and up to the corner.
The goldsmiths and the merchants also made repairs between the going up of the corner to the sheep gate.
