Achan's Trespass.
The children of Israel committed a serious offense by violating the ban on Jericho. One individual, Achan, disobeyed the command to destroy everything in the city, and his actions brought guilt and shame upon the entire nation.
Achan is also known as "Achar," which means "trouble" (1 Chronicles 2:7). His father's name was Zabdi or possibly Zimri (1 Chronicles 2:6), while his grandfather was Zerah or Zarah, a son of Judah and Tamar (Genesis 38:30). The inclusion of this genealogy may serve to illustrate that even those from infamous backgrounds can still be part of God's people.
