Jos 6:1-7 Jericho Shut Up.

Jericho Shut Up.

1. The city of Jericho was completely surrounded and shut up. This brief statement sets the stage for the instructions that will follow from the Captain of the Lord's host.

2. The Lord says to Joshua, "I have given you control over Jericho." This promise implies that a plan already in place is about to be carried out, despite the fierce resistance expected from the king and inhabitants of Jericho.

3-5. The Israelite army is instructed to march around the city once each day for six days, with priests carrying the ark of the covenant leading the procession. On the seventh day, they will march around the city seven times. The unique horns used in this ceremony were likely made from animal horns at first and later replaced with metal trumpets. This elaborate procedure was designed to demonstrate God's power, teach the Israelites to trust in His promises, and show reverence for the ark as a symbol of His presence.

6-7. Joshua follows the Lord's instructions without hesitation, calling on the priests to lead the procession around Jericho.
