Es 6:1-14 Ahasuerus Rewards Mordecai for Former Service.

1. The king ordered his attendants to bring him the book of records of the chronicles. In Eastern courts, there are scribes who keep a journal of significant events. This book is full of interesting anecdotes and has been used by kings throughout history as a source of instruction and entertainment.

The king's request was not unusual, but the timing and his specific interest in Mordecai's services suggest the immediate intervention of Providence.

4. Early that morning, Haman entered the outer courtyard to attend to his duties. It was customary for Eastern monarchs to conduct business before the heat of the day, often outdoors.

6. The king asked his officials what should be done to honor the man he wanted to reward. In Persian custom, when a king bestows favors, they don't immediately decide on the type of honor; instead, they consult their highest-ranking official and follow their advice.

8. The royal garments the king wore were considered an extraordinary gift, given with great ceremony. A coat previously worn by a king or prince was highly valued, and the horse he rode was also revered due to its association with the monarch.

The crown royal, whether a turban or tiara, added to the grandeur of the occasion.

9. The king instructed one of his most noble princes to prepare the man for public display. On special occasions, the royal steed would be led through the city's main streets by the highest-ranking subject, often taking several hours.

11. Haman was suddenly tasked with preparing Mordecai for this honor, a reversal that reflects the Persian custom of sudden and dramatic changes in status.

14. The king's attendants quickly brought Haman to Esther's banquet, where he would join the festivities. In addition to receiving an invitation, guests were also sent a message at the appointed time to confirm that everything was ready for their arrival.
