1-3. Joash began to reign, as described in 2 Kings 12:1-3.

3. Jehoiada arranged for two wives to be taken for the young king.

4-14. Joash decided to repair the house of the Lord, a project also mentioned in 2 Kings 12:4-16.

15, 16. When Jehoiada grew old and died, he was honored with posthumous recognition. As a respected citizen, he was granted burial in the city of David among the kings, an exception made only for royalty and individuals of exceptional merit.
