2Ch 17:1-6 Jehoshaphat Reigns Well and Prospers.

1. Jehoshaphat took steps to strengthen his kingdom against Israel, anticipating potential threats from their northern neighbor. He filled all the fortresses with troops and established military stations throughout the land, including in the cities of Mount Ephraim that belonged to him.

3-5. In the early years of his reign, Jehoshaphat followed the righteous path set by his ancestor David, seeking God's guidance and avoiding idol worship. He refused to turn to Baalim, the idols worshipped by Israel, and instead adhered to the divine institutions established by Moses. By doing so, he demonstrated a commitment to the law of God and earned His blessing.

4. Jehoshaphat's dedication to God's requirements was evident in his rejection of the idolatrous practices that had become widespread in Israel. He used his royal influence to promote the true worship of God, distinguishing himself from both gross idolaters and those who had abandoned the divine law. As a result, the Lord established His kingdom in Jehoshaphat's hands.

5. At the beginning of his reign, Jehoshaphat received voluntary offerings from all Judah, which was customary for new kings (1 Samuel 10:27). These gifts were given annually by nobles and high officials as a way to express their loyalty and support.

6. Jehoshaphat's heart remained steadfast in his devotion to the Lord, inspiring him to lead a reformation of sorts, suppressing idolatrous practices and promoting pure worship. He encouraged others to follow his example, publicly advocating for the true faith.
